Carolina Senior Care began as a Protect ERS distributor in 2002. The system was a PC operating a Windows NT based software running the ERS program. Carolina Senior Care stills supports many communities that are still operating this software. However on June 28, 2004 Protect ERS of Concord, CA was purchased by Lifeline Systems of Framingham,MA. Lifeline Systems was providing the senior living industry with a telephone based system and the engineered Protect ERS system rounded out the systems requirements for the industry. In 2005 Lifeline Systems grew its market share in the industry with the aquisition of Care Technologies of Atlanta, GA and the backbone was complete. 2006 introduced Philips Electronics into the senior living market with their purchase of Lifeline Systems. Philips announced Lifeline would divide the into their residentual segment (Lifeline) and create a new division called Philips Senior Living Solutions featuring the Carepoint emergency reponse system. The combination of the Smartcare software from Care Technologies running the Protect ERS operating technology = The Best Emergency Response System in the Industry: Carepoint!
The Carepoint PC based system operates by locating common area receiver transmitters (CARTS) throughout your community to receive and transmit wireless alerts from the transmitters used by the community. The transmitters can be PHB's (Personal Help Buttons) that can be worn by the resident's to fixed devices such as pull cords that can mounted in bedrooms, bathrooms, or common areas. Below are products that can be used with the Carepoint system.
